Year 10 Geography

Subject Description

Geography helps you to make sense of the world around you. It is hands on, it is relevant and it is fun.  By studying geography, students are able to recognise the responsibilities they have for the environment and the long-term sustainability of the planet.  

Year 10 Geography is designed to prepare students with the necessary skills required for NCEA Level One Geography and are based around Geography Achievement Standards. Students will study some of the following topics:

  • Geological timescales (Dinosaurs)
  • Extreme natural events (Volcanoes and Earthquakes)
  • Global Climate Change
  • Sustainability (Waitomo Caves as a tourist attraction)
  • Geo-Skills (Resource interpretation)

This course is ideally suited to students with a strong interest in environmental and global issues.  It explores the use of natural features for the purpose Tourism, investigates current planning/resource consent issues in New Zealand and identifies the key global issues facing our Earth.
