NCEA Level 3 Music
Subject Description

Music at Level 3 develops the skills learned in Level 2 Music. Performance is a big aspect of Level 3, with the students performing as soloists and as members of a group. Students will be offered free instrumental tuition in piano, guitar, drums and voice.
This course is divided into four main areas
- Performing music as a soloist
- Performing music as a member of a group
- Study and research Music topics
- Compose music and songs
Music Co-curricular Activities:
Smokefree Showquest, Rockquest and Tangata Beats, Play it Strange Songwriting competition, RLHS Talent Quest, Lunchtime concerts, assembly performances, New Zealand Music Commission Mentoring workshops, EPIC Night Out and many more.
Recommended Prior Learning
The prerequisite for 13 Music is at least achieving the performance standards at Level 2 Music or please see Mrs Stunell to confirm that you meet the standard so you can be successful in this subject.
Level 3 Music is mainly performance based. Students need to be capable of performing songs or pieces of music on an instrument or as a singer to a reasonably high standard. As part of 13 Music, students will perform as a soloist and as a member of a group.

Only students engaged in learning and achievement derived from Te Marautanga o Aotearoa are eligible to be awarded these subjects as part of the requirement for 14 credits in each of three subjects.
