NCEA Level 3 Applied Outdoor Education
Subject Description

Level 3 Applied Outdoor Education focuses on providing students with skills and knowledge through learning in various challenging outdoor environment settings. In this course we are aiming to develop leadership in outdoor education through teaching vast skills around leadership, risk management and first aid in higher risk outdoor environments. Potential contexts for learning may include mountain biking, bike maintenance, outdoor safety management. This includes developing an understanding of outdoor educational skills and Te Taiao where students can apply their learning to enhance their relationship with the outdoor environment.
This is a unit standard based course and is suitable for any students experienced in the outdoors and who are potentially interested in a future pathway in the Outdoors industry. Please note this subject does not provide the requirements needed for university entrance.
Students who are wanting to do this course in 2025 are encouraged to complete the Level 2 Fist Aid in 2024.
This course is strictly capped at maximum of 20 students.
Recommended Prior Learning
Full completion and participation in a PE course, with recommendation from their teacher.
